We hate this hymn...

As I kneel before you,
as I bow my head in prayer,
take this day, make it yours,
and fill me with your love.

Ave Maria..

After having been forced to sing this hymn at Lourdes, and attracting considerable comment with my exasperation against it, I have decided to start a Facebook protest group! For those who like me can't stand it, it is:

We hate the hymn 'As I kneel before you,'

So if you are on facebook and you have had enough of it, do please join! My apologies to those who like this song; I loathe it!

I agree Oliver. When I was a deacon I was in a parish where they sanfg all three verses of it at Mass at the end of the bidding prayers instead of the hail mary, and it was led by a wonderful nun who unfortunately sang very loud and very flat.
the words are pure sacharine and when I think of someof the fimne theological hymns we have to our Lady I can't understand why anyone would inflict this sentimental pap on a congregation. It's real dumming down, it doesn't contain a single worthwile theological idea.
Fr. John

I'm not on Facebook (too dangerous in my humble opinion, but that's another story).

I too dislike this schamltzy stuff. Our Lady and Catholic liturgy deserves better - we have better - and we should use the better!

Oh.

I quite like it. And I'm a radical unaccompanied plainchant buff.

Fr John - while, as I have indicated, I don't like the sacharine sentimentality of the ditty, I don't think it's fair to say "it doesn't contain a single worthwile theological idea."

The chorus is surely theological - even though it's in the setting of sacharine pap.
